Store Shows Customers how to Plant a Salsa Garden

Grow Your Own SalsaStore 639 in Colma, Calif., finds unique ways to reach its customer base. Earlier this summer, store manager Sulema Vela helped associates from the garden department host a bilingual workshop, “Starting Your Own Organic Vegetable Garden.” Then they spiced things up with a workshop on how to make – and grow – your own salsa.

The associates stocked up on the plants, herbs and seeds needed for each workshop. Customers learned about lemon and lime trees, jalapenos, onions and tomato plants.

Associates showed customers how to plant and cultivate all the vegetables needed to make the salsa. After tasting three different kinds of homemade salsa, shoppers were ready to try their own recipes at home.

“We had a great response, and we definitely saw some interest in a variety of herbs and vegetable plants in the garden department,” said Contractor Services Supervisor, Michael.

The Colma store has also offered workshops customized for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and holidays celebrated in the surrounding community, such as Philippine Independence Day.
