Teaching the Next Generation of DIYers
There’s nothing like a Kids Workshop when it comes to sharing the orange-blooded spirit of The Home Depot. From Toccoa, Ga., to Bristol, Conn., and Bradenton, Fla., our associates are teaching future DIYers the latest tips and know-how.
Store 6888 in Toccoa, Ga. regularly hosts Kids Workshops for entire classes from area schools. Buses roll in with 75 children at a time, and store associates do a fantastic job of managing the crowd and showing the kids a fun time, too.
Store Manager Drew Watson, Kids Workshop Captain Kenneth and the rest of the team has been invited to host workshops at the county public library as part of a summer reading program.
“The word is out in Toccoa/Stephens County that the associates at Store 6888 have a passion for giving back to our community,” said human resources manager Mark Stephens.
Meanwhile in New England, associates at Store 6229 in Bristol, Conn., took a special Kids Workshop to patients at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Operations Manager Tim Reardon and Cross-Merchandiser Joanna had the idea for the event.
Associate-volunteers delivered dozens of toolboxes, bookends and birdhouses along with paint, brushes and decorations. “We made it very personalized for the kids. It was a very rewarding experience,” Joanna said.
At Store 6319 in Bradenton, Fla., a Kids Workshop was the grand finale of a field trip for students at Oak Park Elementary School. Led by Kids Workshop Captain Daniel, associates Mark in electrical, Glorida in paint, Rebecca in décor and Renee in customer service gave the students a tour of the store and showed them what it’s like to spend a day wearing an orange apron.
The kids learned how to input a paint color into the Behr computer and then see what it will look like in a room. They also learned about the plants and flowers in the garden department.
Kudos to these stores for sharing The Home Depot know-how with the next generation!
