Minnesota Senator Visits Store 2817 to Talk about Formaldehyde
Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) hosted a press conference at Home Depot Store 2817 in Duluth, Minn., to talk about a bill she introduced recently to establish a national health standard for formaldehyde in composite wood products such as particleboard, fiberboard and plywood. Research shows that exposure to too much formaldehyde can make people sick and can make living conditions difficult.
Senator Klobuchar chose to host her press conference at Home Depot Store 2817 because The Home Depot is a leader in sustainable forestry. We have sold more than 200 million Forest Stewardship Council certified products, which ensure that our building materials come from forests where environmental, social and economic interests and benefits are safeguarded.
Visit our Eco Options website for details on all the products we sell that have less of an impact on the environment.
This includes our hardwood oak and birch plywood called Purebond, which is produced with soy-based glue. Purebond is organic and is made domestically in Old Fort, N.C. Most other hardwood plywood produced and sold at retailers today comes from China and contains formaldehyde.
“The Home Depot is proud to partner with Senator Klobuchar on this important legislation, and we look forward to working with her on other environmental issues,” said Bryan Jacobs, director of government affairs for The Home Depot. “We appreciate the Senator’s leadership on issues important to The Home Depot, our associates and our customers, such as our effort to make all carbon monoxide detectors meet certain standards.”

Since I use to be a Health and Hazmat Project Mgr on many projects for the Army Corp of Engrs. I think it is a great idea for Home Depot working with this Minn Senator or any Gov agency willing to rid our environment of formaldehyde wood products.
This is quite a development, I applaud the Senator for humbling herself before her constituents by visiting an establishment frequented by the proletariat masses.
This is a very important subject that I am glad to see Home Depot recognizing. I lived in a FEMA trailer for about 6 months and my husband I would often feel ill from the large amounts of formaldehyde in the materials used to build the trailer. I know first hand what can happen to someone exposed to formaldehyde.
