A Splash of Pink Paint…for the Chicken Coop?

Sharon, a paint associate at Home Depot Store 2108 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, couldn’t help but wonder what her customer was working on when the customer ordered 10 gallons of exterior paint in bright pink.

“The customer wanted to turn an old chicken coop into an elaborate playhouse for her little girls,” said Sharon, a part-time associate. “I immediately knew it was going to be a fun and creative project.”

Over the course of a few weeks, Sharon helped turn the customer’s vision into reality. The customer told Sharon that she didn’t have a big budget, so Sharon helped her save money with creative ideas such as using Oops paint for the final touches.

Together they brainstormed about painting replicas of windows and draperies on the inside walls instead of installing real ones. Following that theme, Sharon suggested that she paint a “rug” on the floor.

“They made it look like they spent a fortune on it just by tinting some garage floor paint and using different application techniques to give it texture,” said Home Depot Store Manager Scott Anderson. “The customer was elated over the help that Sharon gave her … the project surpassed her wildest dreams.”

The customer was so proud of the results that she mailed a photo album to the Home Depot store in Cedar Rapids to show the transformation. Sharon has posted the pictures at the Paint desk to inspire other customers.

“I want customers to see the photos and see what is possible,” Sharon said. “I just love to help people. Most of the time, they just want to bounce their ideas off someone. That’s the fun part of the job – when someone comes in and you just see them brighten up because you’re able to help.”
