The Home Depot is ranked No. 2 on the 2009 list of Top 10 “Military Spouse Friendly Employers” by Military Spouse magazine. It’s the third year in a row that we’ve been chosen as a top employer in the annual ranking.
The Home Depot was recognized for our commitment to military personnel by giving military spouses, 93 percent of whom are women, an opportunity to have their own career while their spouses move cross-country for new assignments, or are deployed to combat zones.
One of the reasons we were chosen is the decision to give military spouses a leave of absence when their active-duty loved one comes home for rest and recuperation. Also our Operation Career Front program links military spouses with meaningful career opportunities in the stores, distribution centers and at the Store Support Center in Atlanta. We provide continuation of benefits at no cost and supplemental pay for associates who are called up to active duty and their covered dependents.
“We pride ourselves on our entrepreneurial spirit and get-it-done attitude,” says Josh Hicks, project leader of employment marketing. “These are qualities military spouses exhibit in their everyday lives and create the opportunity of a natural fit.”
