Stores Team Up to Stay Healthy in All Seasons
Home Depot Store #2901 in Gulfport, Miss., has vowed to have a healthy winter. Workers at the store were among the more than 75,000 Home Depot associates who took advantage of free flu clinics last month. Human Resources Manager Allison Barlow reports the store is also taking advantage of company programs to minimize the spread of germs in common areas.
Cashiers are encouraged to use hand sanitizer to prevent germs, complimentary hand sanitizer is also available for customers at each entrance, and door greeters are asked to spray the handles of our shopping carts with disinfectant spray throughout the day.
Each store has a Building Better Health (BBH) captain, which receives information from the company’s Medical Health Management team in Atlanta. The BBH captain encourages co-workers to participate in programs and benefits available to our associates.
“Nothing is more important than the good health of our associates, and protecting our customers,” says Barlow, who works with multiple stores in the local district, credits the store’s BBH captain, Dale, with implementing a plan that works for their store. “The flu may be getting a lot of attention this year, but associates like Dale have helped her co-workers understand the benefit of good health in all seasons for years.”
Home Depot workers have had a chance to get free seasonal flu shots for the past several years now. Many get the free vaccination at their doctor’s office, but this year more than 75,000 associates took advantage of roaming clinics that visited each store, district office and distribution facility.
