Neither Snow nor Sleet nor Dark of Night…

Donald, a paint associate at Home Depot Store 3610 in Winston-Salem, N.C. went the extra mile to help a customer on a bitterly cold morning last month. A customer rushed into the store as soon as it opened, looking for plastic and tape to repair a damaged car window. Donald thought the customer’s car had been in an accident, but she told him it had been vandalized while she was attending a wedding reception the night before. Now she faced a 300-mile journey home with a broken window in sub-freezing temperatures.

Donald didn’t hesitate. He immediately helped the customer locate the items she needed and, to her surprise, accompanied her out to the icy parking lot to cover the window for her.

The customer and her two passengers tried to tell Donald to get out of the cold, but he insisted on taking care of the job himself. “I kept thinking this could be my mother or wife,” he said. “I would like to think someone would take care of them.”

In a letter to Home Depot Store Manager Chris Hutton, the customer wrote, “I was close to tears just listening to the care and concern Donald had for us. I will always be grateful for the kind words and helping hand we received at The Home Depot. The window repair held the entire drive home.”

Donald said that he is proud of the Home Depot’s core values. “Our store manager, Chris, and my Paint Supervisor, Dewight, always talk to us about doing the right thing.”

This is what is know as a REAL GENTLEMAN. If I had family in a situation like this I’d hope someone would do the same for them.

    To whom it may concern,
I had a similar experience when I went to the Home Depot store in Vineland, N.J. I just could not find where to post this, but here we go, I was looking for something for my gutters because with all the rain and snow we have experienced in N.J. I was looking for someone to assist me in finding the right tools to install the gutter length I bought and then this employee Mike P. I guess of the lumber dept. came to me and inquired what it was that I needed and then continued on by drawing a map of a generic home and where and what to do on my home with the gutter lenght thatI installed! He was probably the most helpful sales associate I have ever met! He made it his business to make sure that I knew everything I had to know about my gutters. Without his help I know I would of purchased the wrong product and then have to return what I bought and noone wants to do that. I did not know where to post this and I hope it gets to his manager over there in Vineland! I wish all employees had the drive of this man because we would all have a much better experience when we spend our hard earned money!! I would like a reply to my e-mail just to find out if the right person is reading this message, please, respond to me. Thank you so very much, Mrs. Robin Mancini.
