Associate Builds Prop for Local Students’ Lesson on Careers
A kindergarten teacher came into Home Depot Store 6554 in Greenville, Texas, to gather supplies for a unique project she had developed for her young students. She was teaching the class about different careers in Texas, including those held by the community’s many farmers and ranchers.
The customer explained to Greg, a Home Depot associate in lumber, that she wanted the children to get a chance to practice “roping a calf.” She had a cutout of a cow’s head and planned to purchase a piece of lumber and mount the cow’s head onto it. Greg came up with an idea to make the students’ experience a little more realistic and offered to help the teacher build what he envisioned.
“The customer came in looking for a 2 x 4, but I thought that it wouldn’t look much like a cow,” Greg said. “I decided to use a sawhorse and paint it to look like a real calf.”
The customer was so pleased with Greg’s efforts that she left the store with a huge grin and later sent Greg a thank you poster from her class with a picture of the students and the sawhorse calf and each kindergartener’s name.
