Orange-blooded angel rescues his neighbor – Tampa, Florida

Across the Company, our orange-blooded associates accomplish amazing things. They often are the first to jump in and help, no matter how challenging the situation.

Our associates are so heroic that we give out Angel Awards to pay tribute to their selfless acts. The Angel Award recognizes associates who go above and beyond in a life-threatening crisis.

Our latest Angel Award winner is associate Paul from Store 256 in Tampa, Fla.

Paul was at home when he heard crackling noises. He went to investigate and found his neighbor’s house on fire. Paul immediately rushed in and pulled his neighbor from the flames.

“Associates like Paul are the fabric of our Company. Paul lived our Home Depot values by putting himself at risk to save the life of a neighbor,” said Chris Canoles, senior director of environmental health and safety.

Honoring Vietnam Veterans

Special Services associate Bill from Store 6323 in Orange City, Florida, decided to do
something special in his store for Memorial Day. “A lot of our customers are veterans, and our store is located on Veterans Memorial Highway, so a replica of The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall seemed appropriate,” Bill said.

Bill did some research to calculate the size of his replica. The actual wall in Washington, D.C., has 58,272 names etched onto 70 polished black granite panels. Bill’s plan was to print the names on sheets of paper and attach them to plywood panels. He explained his plan to Store Manager Alex Herrera, who enthusiastically supported the idea.
