Store Manager Al Cortez and District Team Depot Captain Jennifer from Store 553 in Garland, Texas were recently called by the pastor of a local church. His was was concerning a family who needed to retrofit their home for their little girl. After major brain surgery, the 5-year-old used a wheelchair but was learning how to walk again. The carpet in the family’s home made it difficult, though, as it was tripping her up and catching on her chair. The pastor was hoping for help in replacing the carpet with a better option.
Al didn’t hesitate. “We know how important it is to be emotionally connected to the community. I knew this was something we had to do,” he said.

When a 4-year-old chose The Home Depot as the venue for his birthday celebration, Cashier Arlene pulled out all the stops to make his party something to remember.
Arlene, the Kids Workshop Captain at Store 6560 in Clearlake Shores, Texas, worked on the arrangements for three weeks. The little boy’s parents told her he loved Kids Workshops, so she got approval from Store Manager Jess Anderson to run a special workshop as the party theme.

A conversation with a customer led Store Manager Karen Rachlin from Coram, N.Y. on a heart-wrenching site visit.
The customer asked Karen if the store had any broken bags of insulation that he could buy at a discount. A group of neighbors was helping fix another neighbor’s family room that had been damaged by a roof leak.
